Vignerons Schmölzer & Brown "Brunnen" Pinot Noir 2014
1st vintage of Vignerons Schmölzer & Brown! This wine comes from Beechworth, from a single vineyard. Feels like higher country, when you taste the wine. Cool refrains. Pops out of the glass with a tickle of spiky grapiness and a whiff of something earthy savoury before you hit the darker fruits. Some might find the scents a bit off kilter, but swirls and swirls and you get that cherry pie, musk and rose petal going on. Lean, chewy and sinewy to taste – good structure and firmness with bony tannins doing great work to give a framework for the more subtle dark fruit to hang off. Finishes with a shortish cinch, twiggy oak and a tug of undergrowth and herbs. Mad angles, and a wine that needs time, demands some involvement and rewards those looking for architecture in pinot noir.
